The Menzies - Sydney

I recently had the pleasure of not only visiting Sydney but also the “absolute” pleasure of staying at The Menzies in Sydney. 

I have had many dealings over the past year with The Menzies staff through being an advertiser on The Senior Stays & School Getaways website.  I had always found their staff a delight to deal with, which I quickly found out on arrival, extends to all their staff throughout the hotel.

The arrival in to the beautiful city of Sydney is enough to make your day,  as the sun beams through, life couldn’t get much better it seems, until my car arrives at its destination the entrance of The Menzies.   I am greeted by the most hospitable concierge staff with wonderful smiles upon their faces.  It was such a lovely greeting after my very long drive from Melbourne.

The lobby is grand and old world, which will make anyone feel that the hotel has lived up to its expectations from images off the internet or brochures.  Not only spacious but plenty of club lounges to rest upon whilst waiting for a guest to arrive or just to sit and ponder your plans for the day.

A lounge bar is situated at the end of the lobby with a grand piano and the strains of a jazz singer playing during pre dinner drinks will make this a great place to begin your evening out with a Champaign cocktail before you step out for a night on the town.

Another feature of the hotel would have to be the convenience shop situated just down the hall from the lobby – so very handy!

As we are greeted and given our key for our room, I notice the sheer size of this hotel by the amount of lifts they have.  No waiting too long for lifts when you want to get somewhere!

Our room was spacious and had every modern convenience you would require and expect from The Menzies.  Plasma TV, comfortable bed, plenty of pillows,  internet access and also the mini bar packed with goodies.  And most importantly a quick response when you order room service for the late night munchies! 

My favourite part of any time spent away is always breakfast and there was no doubt that The Menzies are “Masters” when it comes to presenting a scrumptious buffet to their guests.  My biggest down fall is “THE BUFFET” because I just have to try everything!  The Bacon was served both crispy  (and as I like it just a little under done) so will keep the best of the bacon connoisseurs happy! The eggs where served in scrambled or poached (in their own individual bowls) the choice of roma grilled tomatoes, garlic mushrooms and the sausages where just too hard to ignore!

I infact was to move to another hotel two days later and I ended up extending my hotel stay at The Menzies due to the convenience of location and the fact that the hotel was comfortable and had fabulous car parking facilities.  The Menzies is only a very short walk to Circular Quay too!  The Wynyard Train station is situated across the road and then not to mention all the shopping at your finger tips!  Cabs and Buses are in abundance when you step out onto the pavement.

I have no hesitation in recommending The Menzies to anybody when considering a holiday or business trip to the exciting, beautiful and vibrant city of Sydney.
