Just when you think you have Port Douglas all figured out, we stumble across an unexpected treasure.
The Port Douglas Cottage & Lodge stands at the top end of Owen Street just off Macrossan Street, so with an ideal location and gorgeous facade we take a closer look.
As there is just the two of us, the perfect choice is the Cottage.
The Cottage (so aptly named) is a two storey, stand-alone building constructed in authentic Tropical Queenslander architectual style, self-catering accommodation. It embodies the naustagic charm of yesteryear.
It is painted inside a fresh white throughout giving it a classic contempory feel.
Upstairs, The Cottage has an enormous romantic welcoming bedroom with a queen size bed and a unique ensuite featuring a Roman marble bath and shower just waiting for you to enjoy.
Downstairs living area, has all the comforts and facilties one would expect including comfortable quality furnishings, widescreen LCD TV, DVD, stereo and a gourmet kitchen with microwave and stainless steel appliances.
Conveniently, The Cottage has all necessities you will need, such as private laundry facilities, linen, towels and beach towels. With air conditioning throughout, ceiling fans, hair dryer, free local phone calls and a dedicated wireless internet connection, you are sure to be staying in the comfort that you expect from a five star resort.
With the exclusive use of our own heated pool, spa, sundeck and gas BBQ, it was very easy to drift off daydreaming of a much longer stay, rather than the two short but sweet nights we enjoyed. The private first floor sundeck of The Cottage offers glorious sunset views over the mountains of the Great Dividing Range and north to the Daintree Rainforest.
We BBQ the catch of the Day while enjoying a last minute dip before dinner. Just as I am about to enjoy a crisp Sav blanc and a well spiced Mackerel, I think to myself that life really does not get better than this.
The cottage is an ideal alternative to the Resort style holiday, great for a couple who values privacy and convience. It has all the modcons of a self contained holiday unit, yet just a few short steps you are at one of the fabulous restaurants that Port Douglas is renowned for. Yes, the Cottage surely delivers with the seclusion, tropical ambiance and character, which will leave you wishing you had booked a couple of nights more.
We also managed to sneak a peak at The Lodge during our stay, which is located at the rear end of the property and sleeps 6 people comfortably with a more family friendly approach or 3 couples wanting to share a break together. The Lodge guests are spoilt with all the fabulous features that the Cottage provides.
So whether you have a family function or a romantic getway, The Cottage and Lodge is the perfect secluded option that will fullfil all of your holiday wishes.
